![]() For example, morning or late afternoon naps are accommodated by having easy access to their cribs or cots and providing a place in the room for them to sleep when needed. We feel that it is important for the child to remain consistent with the eating and sleeping schedule at home and will try our best to accommodate this need as much as we can. We also value the need for each infant’s individual schedule. We provide items throughout the infant program to show diversity such as multi-cultural dolls, puppets, books with different types of people (cartoon, drawn, real photos), diverse music instruments, and posters. Through these types of quality play experiences the children are able to develop physical (walking, jumping), emotional (labeling feeling, empathy), cognitive (hand-eye coordination, sorting objects), social (turn-taking, name recognition), and language abilities. ![]() Educator will tell the children what they are seeing. For example, I am going to carry you over to the change table so we can change your diaper. Educators will also share and label their feelings with the child. Educators will explain and describe the actions of what’s taken place. We feel that positive connections are very important. To support their learning we are able to provide a balance of opportunities to support all areas of the infant’s development throughout the day. ![]() By letting them learn at their own pace, they will learn to feel safe and self-confident enough to explore and play. Infants will learn at their own pace by touching, tasting, and vocalizing. The schedule is a guideline and is flexible to meet the children`s needs throughout the day. The infant daily schedule provides large amounts of time for play and is based on the needs of the child. ![]() At these stages of development, educators try to help the children make the transition from solitary play to parallel play. The educator will encourage the children to take turns and work together. Educators support relationships among children by encouraging turn-taking, cooperation, self-control, and demonstrating empathy for each other, for example, the educator will help the children build a tower with the blocks. Educators build connections by creating a warm and trusting environment communicating in a soft, calm voice, meeting the child’s needs when they are upset, and interacting through diaper changes and feedings. Educators sit on the floor at the child`s level, making themselves accessible to the children. Activities are planned and implemented based on the observations. The educators observe the children in order to determine each child`s abilities and interests. We also support the importance of play by offering daily activities that are based on the current development, abilities, and interest of the child such as water play at the sensory table. We support the importance of play by offering age-appropriate toys such as different textured balls, a variety of block sizes, individual puzzles with a large knob that are available to each child on a low open shelf that is at the child’s level for easy access. We value the importance of play because it’s the child’s way of learning about themselves and the world around them. The infant program promotes a developmental approach to the social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth of each child through play. We post photos of experiences to Fastoche to show links between the experiences children have in the day and what they have learned and how this encourages their development. Each family receives a daily journal that provides information about the child’s day and experiences. We also provide daily journals through our daycare management system called Fastoche. At pick up, the educator is to give a summary report of the child’s day (What did they do? How long did they sleep for?) to the family. The educators greet the infants by using their names and communicate with their families about their child’s night when they arrive (How did they sleep? Last diaper change?) to ensure that the educator is able to meet the child’s needs throughout the day. Garderie Ile des Chênes daycare`s Infant program is based on the individual needs of all the children in our care and their families.
